

About MaryKate
MaryKate F. Core is the Director of Music Ministries at Crawford Street United Methodist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where she oversees the Chancel Choir, the Adult Handbell Choir, the Terrific Tuesday after-school program. MaryKate previously served as the Assistant Director of Music Ministries and the Asbury Ringers Director at First United Methodist Church in Lake Charles, La; and more recently as the Director of Agape Ringers at University United Methodist in Baton Rouge, La. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from McNeese State University (2020) and a bachelor of science in Geology with a minor in Anthropology from LSU (2015). While at McNeese, MaryKate performed as a Messiah soloist and Nelson Mass soloist, in addition to roles in Kiss Me, Kate and Songs for a New World. She recently performed as a featured soloist with Vicksburg Chamber Choir (2024).
MaryKate has worked with the Governor’s Program for Gifted Children, teaching classes such as Chemistry, Archeology, and Music Theory and has taught science and Latin language classes for schools in the Diocese of Lake Charles. In 2022, MaryKate spent a week on campus at the University of Cambridge in England learning about the traditions of Anglican high church choirs, particularly in the practice of Evensong and Compline. She graduated with an M.M. in Musicology from LSU in December 2024, writing a thesis on Stravinsky’s Cantata (1952).
